7/22/2013 - Sam's Letter to the Family

Aww those puppies are so cute :) This week was really busy so we didn't get out and teach as much as we would have liked. Monday was P-day so we that took most of the day. We did get some new investigators though after dinner. We decided to tract this street and we walked up to the first house and Elder Daley said he wasn't feeling very spiritual so we said a prayer there on the door step and then knocked. This young guy answered the door and he said we could share a message with him. We taught him the first lesson right there on the door step and his little brother came over and listened. His name was anthony and I'm guessing he is about 20 and his brother's name is Junior and he is thirteen. We gave them a book of Mormon and they agreed to read it. They said we could come back today so we will see what happens. We're not really sure what happened to Steve Page our baptism guy. He kind of just disappeared. Whenever we go over it seems like someone new answers the door and says that they hardly ever see Steve so we are a little confused. Hopefully we can track him down though. On tuesday we had district meeting. It was good. I got to lead a role play on helping an investigator recognize the spirit. Leading roleplays is pretty easy you just tell the missionaries the scenario then say ready go. On wednesday we had interviews with the mission president. We got there at like five and they said he was like an hour and a half behind schedule so we went out with the district leader and taught some people in his area for an hour. We got back and the AP's did a training while we got our interviews. The AP's are super good teachers, I see why they are the assistants. My interview was good. President Ames is pretty awesome. He is very inspirational. I was like the second to last one so I didn't get out until like 9 so we got home pretty late. We went to the library on thursday and then when we got home Elder Daley realized that he left his wallet there. We had to bike all the way back and it is clear on the opposite side of our area so that took like an hour! Luckily it was still there. On friday we did an exchange with the district leader. So Elder Johnson came down here with me and Elder Daley went up to Sanger with Elder Rivero. Elder Johnson is super chill, I learned a lot from him. He is really short but super buff hah he still couldn't keep up with me on a bike though :) It was pretty fun being the leader for the day. I didn't get lost so that is good. I had a pretty cool experience yesterday where I had a prayer answered that I didn't even realize I had offered. I was sitting there during personal study and I don't know why but I was thinking about how much I missed getting hugs. I turned to elder daley and asked him what he would do if the Savior appeared in our apartment right now. I said i would give him a big hug. That night we went out with Brother Mabe and he said we should go visit one of his less active home teaching families who lived by an investigator we went to visit. They let us in (which he said was a miracle) and we sat down and were talking to them. They have a little four year old named hayden and he was being pretty crazy so I told him to come here and I would show him something cool. He came over and I pulled out a pass along card with Jesus on it. We talked about Jesus and how he loves us very much then I showed him one with the salt lake temple on it. He thought that was like the coolest thing ever! I told him he could have them and he got the biggest smile on his face and just reached up and gave me a big hug. It felt so special! I didn't even think about it until this morning. I was thinking about how children are the closest thing to Christ and someday when I get to meet my Savior face to face and he gives me a hug that is exactly what it will feel like :) I love little kids! The church is true!! I love it and I love teaching about Jesus Christ and His gospel!! If you want to find true happiness go out and share it! You can do it! Romans 8:31

Love,
Elder Johnson

Hi Sam (Elder Johnson)

Mom probably filled you in on the dogs and stole my thunder. We did sale them all, selling 5 yesterday and the last one (the one we call Joker, because of the color around his lips looks like the joker in Batman). It is a little sad to go out back and not have all the puppies rush me. They were getting to be a lot of fun. They really liked me because I fed them the most. Felt like I had 9 little friends always excited to see me.

This week has been busy at work. Mom said she also told you about someone stealing one of the puppies and then it being returned. The people that returned it said they found it out on the road, but the neighbors (the Duttons) said they did not find it but took it out of the back yard. Anyway we got her back and she is in a happy home now.

Spent most of the week building fence to move horses at the school. There are 4 horses with new born colts at in the pasture below the school. They are running out of feed so we built a fence along the road in that little upper pasture. It is small and will only last about a week or so. The horses never stop eating.

I did run into a heard of baby quail in the pasture and could have caught them all, They were very small. I wanted to, but decided not to. We had so much fun with Bonnie and Clyde that I really wanted to catch them. They are probably all dead by now anyway. At any rate I let them go.

We got another boy and he seems to be like a pretty good kid. He is a swimmer. We are at 16 now. We sending Kenny to Las Vegas tomorrow, but are getting another boy in, so we will stay at 16.

We took Tarri, who teaches at our school to the temple this week to do Baptisms for the dead. That was nice. She really enjoyed it.

On Friday we went to the temple again on Friday with Bevin and Susan. The had a 25 dollar gift certificate. They forgot about us and we were really slow getting our food. It was a little annoying. They told us it wasn't that long, but it was. Some of our food was cold. They offered us free dessert, but we were full so we passed.

I did some missionary work today. Took some tomatoes over to Alice and visited with her for a bit. You know how she is, she really likes to visit. She is enjoyable to visit with.

I also talked with Larry about the church and invited him to dinner when we have venison. He said he loves venison and would come over for dinner. We'll see how it works out, I have invited him before and he said he would come, but didn't.

Well that is about it. back to being pretty quite around here with all the puppies gone. Have to start thinking about another batch. Hummmm, probably not.

Well keep up the good work. We pray for you daily.

Love Dad.

Sam,

The kids in the pictures are a family that moved into our ward that we invited over for homemade ice cream and she brought her camera.

Monday I came home from work and one of the puppies was gone. I didn't know if someone stole her or if she got out and wandered away. The next day a guy brought her back and said that his sister found her up by Roberts Roost and when he saw her he knew that she was ours. The Duttons said that she was stolen and the girlfriend made him bring her back.

Wednesday we took Tarri from the school and went and did baptisms for the dead. I haven't done that in a long time. It was good. We then when out to Cafe Rio to dinner. Tarri had a great time and wants to do it again next month. I need to talk to her about getting in a temple class so she can get her own endowments.

Friday we went to the temple again with Bevin and Susan. We went and did sealings, then went to Chili's. We were going to go see the Lone Ranger but then they called and invited us to go with them so we went to the temple instead.

Saturday we packed the 6 puppies we had left and headed over to Sportsmen Warehouse. We set up the awning on some grass and brought the puppies out for sale. They were dead beats. We were there from 10 to 5 o'clock and the puppies slept the whole time, seriously they  would only wake up to move to a different spot then go to sleep again. It was kind of embarrassing. People could not even tell what kind of personalities they had because of it. One guy saw the ad on ksl.com and came over from Lake Powell about 12:30 and we sold him one for $300 and then from then on out we sold them for $200 and people stared buying. There was hardly a time when someone was not there, most just wanted to look. By 4:30 we had them all sold but one, the Joker. Today someone at church who had came and looked at them before said they only had a $200 budget for a dog and I said sold. They came over today but I told them to come back tomorrow.

All in all, the money you made with go to pay for 4 1/2 months of your mission. Expenses came to about $68 per dog and after expenses you made about $200 per dog. It was fun and we enjoyed the puppies, but will probably not do it again.

Do you ride your bike, walk or car?

The visiting teaching message for this month was on being a scriptorian. I have a favorite scripture and I knew the jist of the scripture but I didn't have it memorized. Elder Scott admonished us to memorize scriptures so this week I have memorized Doctrine and Covenants 90:24.

Well have a good week work hard and be believing.

I love you,

MOM
