Sam's letter to the Family

This week was pretty great! We taught lots of lessons so that is always fun. I got to be in charge this week so that was interesting. I was a little worried but it went pretty well.

Going to the temple was probably the highlight of the week I loved it.

We have still been teaching Roberto. He is doing great I love that kid. He is the smartest 11 year old I have ever met! We are hoping to set a solid baptisimal date with him tomorrow because the last thing we have to teach him is about baptism and confirmation.

We had an exchange this week. Elder Daley went up to Sanger with Elder Johnson and Elder Honey and Elder Miller came to Denton with me. It was fun, Elder Miller is pretty cool. We were going to visit someone when this guy flagged us down and told us to go teach his neighbors. We were a little nervous because the guy said he didn't believe what we taught but his neighbors could use it. We thought he was setting us up for something hah they ended up being really nice though and gave us water and stuff but they said they weren't interested.

We also tracted into this youth minister guy that was fun. We had a really good discussion about prophets and other things. At the end he said the prayer and it was cool because he said "Lord please let these boys know the truth and find out what is right." but then he paused for a second then said, "and Lord please let me know if I'm the one that is wrong and needs to change." Yaaaaaayyyy an open heart :D If this guy reads the Book of Mormon and prays about it he is totally going to get baptized :)

Sorry this letter is kind of short but I am out of time. Everyone keep doing your missionary work!
Love,
Elder Johnson

From Sam to Dad

Funny you mention that BYU game a guy just walked up to us and said something about it about 10 minutes ago. No one really cares about BYU down here so we don't hear too much about them.

I got a letter from Elder Baxter this week it was pretty cool. He said that he remembered me and he gave me some advice and scriptures on how to be a successful missionary.

I bought Jesus the Christ this week and have been reading that. Man you need to have a dictionary next to you to read that thing! It's pretty cool though.

Things have been going well here I love being a missionary it's so fun :)

I had an interesting dream the other night. I drempt that I was home from my mission and I was sitting in the chapel waiting for sacrament meeting to start and I was sitting alone. As I sat there I realized that I was the same person I was before I left. I hadn't changed or grown at all and I just got the sickest feeling in my stomach and I began to cry. I realized that I had wasted my time and there was nothing that I could do to change it. That was literally Hell. I think that is what it is going to be like when people receive their kingdom and they realize that they could have done more but it is too late and they are stuck. Hell isn't fire and brimstone it's regret and sorrow. I was so grateful when I woke up and vowed not to let that happen. I am going to continue to change and grow and I am never going to go back to how I was. That dream was a warning from God I know it was and I'm so grateful for it. Look out Texas here I come :)

I love you Dad!

From Dad To Sam

Hi Sam,

Pretty slow week as for what has been happening.

Probably the most exciting thing was that I went with Randy and Tony up to Parowan to plan some type of bush on hills that have been burnt off by fire. This was hours for my dedicated hunter tag. Anyway They gave us two cans of seeds and said work until they are gone. Should take about 6 hours, but we could count it for 8. Well we planted it all and it took about 3 1/2 hours. So that was a good project to count as 8. Now I can get my tag for deer.

I am working on the boat motor trying to get it back together and then I need to get the boat put back together. Time is the difficult part. I got about a half a day yesterday and it rained most of the day so it was a good indoor project.

You have probably heard by now that BYU killed Texas last night. The paper didn't give BYU any credit, they just said Texas wasn't very good this year. BYU set a record for number of yards rushed and Texas set a record for the number of rushing yards given up by a team. BYU dominated. I guess Texas fired their defensive coordinator right after the game was over.

Well that is about it from this end. Keep working hard. Don't play to much and always try to look and act like a representative of Jesus Christ would look and act.

As always, we love you and are proud of you.

Love Dad.

Mom's Letter to Sam

Sam,

Thanks for the pictures. It was good to see you alive and healthy. We miss you though.

Well we finished up our trip up to Brian Head on Monday. A free meal came with the room so we had breakfast at the Lodge in the morning. We had a ditsy waitress that kept forgetting everything and when we went to pay (even though the breakfast was free we had to pay the tip) all I had was a $20 bill and all she had was $12 and I told her I was not going to leave her a $8 tip. so she had to spend another 10 minutes finding change.

We went to Yankee Meadow reservoir and fished some more for a couple of hours. Dad caught 2. One was a decent size but the other one was little. We drove up to East Zion to Uncle Bevin's property. They were there having lunch. Uncle Bevin and Dale bought a big outfitters tent and they had gone up there to set it up for the deer hunt.

We came home and the vacation was over. After we put everything away we mowed the lawns, washed the car and cleaned the house. It was a nice relaxing weekend and I was glad to have it.

Tuesday, was busy at work catching up on all the things that didn't get done while I was gone. I stopped by Grandpa and Grandma Ewell's house to visit. Grandpa Ewell got a ticket for wandering over the center line over in Leeds and now he has to take a driving test and a written test. He is really worried that they are going to take his drivers license away even though Grandma does most of the driving any way.

Wednesday, I got a call from the Stake executive secretary asking if I could meet with the Stake President that night. I don't know why I was not worried, you would think that I have had enough experience to know that if its a little thing a counselor takes care of it, but I had know idea that they were going to call me to be Stake Young Women's President. Just thinking about it makes me sick to my stomach. I know the Lord will help me and I will learn a lot but I am still scared to death. It will probably not be as bad as I fear once I get into it.

The rest of the week was pretty ho hum after that.

Nicki had a baby girl on Thursday, three days before Katie's baby was born. They named her Gracie Beth. She's a tiny little thing but cute.

Taylor stopped by on Thursday night after she got home from work and brought back your memory card. She stayed for about a half hour and visited. She said she went out to dinner with Tanner one night. For some reason I feel sorry for her, she doesn't seem to have a very fun life. Work and school. Work and School.

For Sacrament meeting today, they asked all the mothers of missionaries to speak. There are seven of us so they asked us each to take 5 minutes to report on our missionaries. I had printed out some of the things from your letters to talk about but I wanted to see what the other mothers were saying so I was going to try to wing it a little bit. So listening to them I decided to talk about some of the things you have encouraged us to do regarding missionary work. I talked about not judging a book by it cover and told about the tattoo guy that bought you lunch at Subway, and about always having a investigator over when you feed the missionaries, then my mind went blank and I couldn't remember about not giving up on someone because they didn't except the Gospel the first time. So I ended up rather lamely. It was pretty embarrassing considering they had just called me to be the Stake Young Women's president and I couldn't even speak 5 minutes. Dad said I spoke 3:45 and everyone else spoke 7 to 8 minutes ( he was timing them. A habit he go into when he was the Stake President and he never had time to give his talks).

Uncle Rick and Aunt Jolene are down for the week, so we had them over to dinner today. Grandma Ewell came also but Grandpa was sick. It was nice to visit with them.

Well that's the highlights. Hope you have a good week. Work hard and be obedient and the Lord will bless you with success.

I love you,

MOM
