Sams Letter to the family

I got my new companion :D His name is Elder Sprague from Logan Utah. Another Utah boy :) I tell everyone I am from Arizona because people don't like Utah missionaries as much haha I don't know why. He is awesome though I love him already!

It was sad to leave Elder Carter. We had so much fun together. Elder Sprague and I are going to take Roanoke to greater heights though :)

We found some awesome new investigators this week that we are super excited about! Tracting does work sometimes :) Thank goodness because we do a lot of it! We are having an ice cream social this thursday at the church it's going to be awesome! We've committed so many people in our ward to bring their friends :)  It sounds pretty awesome just show up and eat blue bell ice cream and socialize and feel the wonderful Spirit in our new building :)

Hmmm what else exciting happened this week.... Oh someone hit our car >:( We just came out in the morning and their was a dent in the side with a big scrape. We didn't even get the excitement of being in the car when it happened! So we had to drive to Euless to get an estimate on it. We printed out instructions to get their but when we got their I realized I didn't get the instructions of how to get home! And the freeways in Texas are not easy to navigate! They go over and under and around each other it's crazy! So I was just praying in my heart and just went for it and we made it home :)

I was able to finish the Book of Mormon this week that's always cool! I love Moroni 9:6. It gives me hope and strength to keep going on those days when every door gets closed on you. It also lets us know that we as members of the church are going to be held responsible for sharing the gospel with those around us. So not only are you bringing salvation to the souls of others when you do missionary work you are bringing salvation to your own soul. Missionary work is a commandment from God given to us through his prophets. So we have to sit back and think, am I going to follow the prophet or not? I hope you all decide right now that you are going to follow the prophet in all things, not just the things that are easier or less scary. Let's all show our love and appreciation for God and our Savior by sharing the greatest blessings he has given to us with our brothers and sisters! You can do it! I know you can and even more importantly the Lord KNOWS you can! So how can we doubt the most powerful being in the universe!? Share the gospel!

You guys are awesome!

Love,
Elder Johnson

Dads letter to Sam

Hi Sam,

Well it was another pretty slow week. Not much going on here right now.

At the school I am working on the property trying to get it cleaned up and looking nice. Been cutting wood and burning some of those piles around the place. Had a nice fire going the other day. To hot to get close to.

BYU update. BYU beat Loyola Marymount on Saturday to advance to the quarter finals in the West coast conference. They played real good. The play again tomorrow and if they win, play for the the championship on Tuesday. I think they will make the tournament if they win Monday. It will be tight if they don't.

I had a great missionary quote that I got from this last conference. I was listening to it the other day, but when I went to look for it to add to your letter I couldn't find it. I will keep looking.

Well keep up the good work. Work hard and with faith. View every person you meet as a prospective member. It will take a great deal of faith to convince people that they need the gospel of Jesus Christ and the priesthood of God. Have faith that you, by the power of the Holy Ghost can touch the hearts of those you teach. If you do, their hearts will be softened and they will accept the message you have for them.

We love you and pray for your safety and success as a missionary.

Love Dad.
